Bugs at the Hostel
My stay at Mad Monkey Phuket was a major disappointment for several reasons. I expected a fun hostel experience, but instead, I encountered serious hygiene and service issues.
1. Hygiene & Room Conditions:
Over three consecutive days, I found unwanted animals in my dorm room—on the toilet seat, the floor, and eventually even on my bed. After escalating the situation and threatening to cancel, I was moved to a replacement room, which unfortunately had a significant amount of mold in the shower. Additionally, the Wi-Fi in the rooms was completely insufficient for any kind of work.
2. Overpriced Pub Crawl & Commission-driven Vibe:
The Pub Crawl (500 Baht) was a total letdown. For the price, I received only about 3-4 shots in total at below-average bars. It felt like the hostel was simply leading us to venues where they receive a commission, rather than providing a quality guest experience.
3. Inappropriate Pressure for 5-Star Reviews:
What shocked me most was the behavior of the staff. Despite being aware of the hygiene issues in my room, I was repeatedly and aggressively pushed to leave a 5-star review and mention specific staff names. This happened three times. It is clear that staff are incentivized to solicit high ratings even when the guest experience has been poor. This makes the overall rating of this hostel very misleading.
4. Zero Customer Support:
After reporting these issues, the customer service promised an update within 48 hours. It has now been over a week, and despite multiple follow-ups, I have been completely ignored.
Conclusion:
Between the pests, the mold, the overpriced activities, and the pushy "review culture," I cannot recommend this hostel. There are far better, cleaner, and more honest places to stay in Phuket.

The WORST Hostel you can Imagine.
DON'T GO THERE, animals are far more better.
An enormous serie of bad things.
As I arrived in the Hostel, people at the reception were very Rude. I left my luggages in the room and I found the first Cockroach right close my bed on the ground level and a very dirty bathroom.
When I came back in the room in late afternoon there were 5 more guys, 3 from Switzerland, a girl and his boyfriend from Usa who started to drink alchool and talking loudly, against the RULES of the Dormitory. And again more cockroaches close to my bed.
These 5 people came back in the room at 4.30 drunk and talking loudly while I was sleeping. But the worst, I woke up at 6 am because one of the swiss guy close to my bed was masturbating, a little bit later also the american girl moaning having sex, all again against the Rules of the dormitory. And believe me I could hear all the sounds coming from the three of them. The problem at first was the arrogance, the unrespectfullnes and the bad manners of these animal people doing private things in the public room. Anyway the Hostel Rules paper is attached on every Dorm's door.
I left the room the day after, changed the hotel because everything was at the very lowest point you can imagine.
Some of the girls at the reception are so rude, especially one of the manager.
They DIDN'T REFUND me at all.
I told them what happened and they first said that I will have been refunded, but I call, mesagge and email them for more than one month on differnt contacts and numbers, NO ANSWER.
I got my money back only insisting many times with Agoda, because the Hostel never answer at Agoda too.
After one month a very gentle guy from Agoda Customer Service named AHMED helped me with the problem. But from this horrendous Hostel not a sign.
Again DON'T GO THERE.
