Ecotourism at it’s best
Fantastic location for both spending the night and having a conference. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Clear effort to respect the environment with solar water heaters separated garbage bags. It’s a guest house policy with excellent room and beds but food has to be ordered in advance

Comfy and cheap stray in the heart of Antsirabea
This accommodation is a hidden gem in the center of Anstrirabe run by a Norwegian missionary group. Apart from the culture and education center they offer accommodation in private rooms or in dorms. I stayed twice there. The rooms are spotlessly clean with comfy beds and strong WIFI. Nice garden to sit and relax. Everything is close to the hotel, on the same street you can find bike and motorbike rent shop offering also trekking and kayaking activities, restaurants supermarkets or night street food stalls. The price for the dorm room is unbeatable.

Clean, modest hotel - great for travellers
This hotel was clean and tidy -- exactly what we needed on our road trip. The staff were attentive and the breakfast was delicious (a lot of variety). The hotel is well located near most restaurants and bars.

Minimalist room, beautiful compound, fine for an overnight stay
The complex within which Lovasoa is based is absolutely lovely, set up by a Norwegian missionary group and a bit of a haven away from all the hustle bustle outside. I stopped here for one night in between Andasibe and Ranamafona National Parks and would have loved the chance to explore the space more but I was exhausted - unfortunately the exhaustion wasn't helped by the service or state of the room. The room hadn't been cleaned (I showed around 3 pm, after their check-in time and found the previous guest's garbage in the room and bathroom), and I had to walk back to reception twice to figure out what was going on there. They sent a cleaner over but of course I had to stand around waiting outside while it was cleaned after an 8 hour car trip. I was told I hadn't booked breakfast so I booked it then (only to be corrected the next day when I tried to check out and told that I had in fact booked it online on Booking.com - it's more expensive to book the breakfast via Booking.com than in person for some reason). The same lady who accused me of having booked breakfast at the more expensive rate online also double counted my room expense + breakfast and tried to charge me extra until I looked over the receipt and corrected her. I don't think I was being deliberately cheated at all but it would be nice if record-keeping between receptionists was consistent.
It's also worth noting that 1) they don't serve lunch or dinner, just breakfast and 2) you can order delivery from a restaurant for which they have a laminated menu but the end-cost is considerably higher than the one listed on the menu (and the food's not very good, nor is cutlery provided).
Mixed service aside, there was also the issue of the room - it was on the ground floor (most hotels and guest houses don't book women guests on the ground floor if they have other floors available, which they did) and clearly fitted out to be wheelchair-friendly, so that the shower head was at waist level. It was also rather mosquito-friendly given it's ground-level location and poorly ventilated (you have to close the windows to keep the mosquitos out but that means no air coming in) - and no fan to speak of on a warm night. There were mosquito nets but I still was bitten a couple of times. There was only one very dodgy-looking plug point, an incredibly dim ceiling light and one bedside lamp that was neither plugged in, nor did it work when it was plugged in. Needless to say it was an uncomfortable and rather dreary night.
The only reason I'm not rating my stay as 2 is that there's no denying that the compound itself is absolutely charming, and breakfast the next day was in a very pleasant space with a lovely view. Also the wi-fi was absolutely excellent, which has not been my experience travelling elsewhere in Madagascar. I'm also aware that my expectations had been raised by the Lonely Planet description of Lovasoa as having lovely rooms, which was not the case - they were fine, and perhaps on a higher floor when the weather is cooler quite a bit more comfortable but 'lovely' is stretching it a bit.
